Marvin was created by Chuck Jones, an animation director. Jones’ attention was caught when he noticed that Bugs Bunny has began to outsmart his number one adversary, Yosesmith Sam. Therein, Jones has opted to create another antagonist for Bugs but one with an opposite trait; a silent and self-spoken martian capable of vicious and ruinous actions and traits. There goes the birth of Marvin the Martian which made his first ever appearance on the 1948 Looney Tunes cartoon entitled “Haredevil Hare”. Although Marvin was first named in his initial films only as “Commander of Flying Saucer X-2”, it initiated the small Martian’s popularity and spot in the cartoon character world. The “Marvin the Martian” name only rose into fame decades after the character gained merchandising interest.
